Opportunity for All

Law

Law was first introduced to the school in 1995 with an initial group of 5 pupils taking a two year A Level course of study. Since that time Law as a subject at Heolddu has blossomed to the extent that pupils now have the opportunity to commence their legal studies in Year 10. Today the department has around 100 students registered at GCSE and A Level with a high number of those choosing to continue their studies in Higher Education at Universities such as Cardiff, Aberystwyth and Bristol.  So what is Law all about? Let’s ask a number of pupils past and present to give their views…

"I have studied law now for three years and have thoroughly enjoyed the subject. I especially enjoyed learning about how the criminal justice system works in England and Wales and about the various roles of those involved in the administration of justice. Over the past three years I have had a lot of fun and would strongly recommended law as an interesting and worthwhile qualification".

Mathew Clapham Year 12

"While studying Law for GCSE I learnt many things about the English Legal System and its operation, which was fascinating as many topics applied to my everyday life. I was so intrigued by law as a subject that I am currently studying it for AS level and will continue with it next year also, such is its appeal".

Kayleigh Owen Year 12

"I have studied law for my A levels and have found it fascinating. The English Legal system is so interesting because not much ever stays the same its always and changing. This gives more variety to learning as everyday events can be related to something within the law".

Gavin Lavender Year 13

"I had studied law since GCSE and I have found it very beneficial as I can relate to it in my everyday life and understand more about the major issues that take place in he world today".

Verena Terry Year 13

"I started studying law almost four years ago, when I began my GCSE course. I find it continually challenging and captivating, as it is topical and relevant in everyday life. I will be studying law in University, as I found the course so enjoyable".

Bethan Stone Year 13
