Snow Closures The unusual cold and snowy weather forced Heolddu to close for much of the first week in February as the site and access to it became treacherous. The Headteacher would like to thank all the parents who had to make other arrangements to look after their pupils during this period. Winners of the Minimal Mouse Competition Again!! Over several weeks in the Autumn term, Year 9 Technology pupils have been preparing for the annual Minimal Mouse competition. Every lunchtime eight pupils (Stuart Davies, Emily Phelps, Jessica Broom, Amy Powell, Ben Morgan, Naomi Price, Josh Eynon and Joseph Cook) have been building their minimal Mice from scratch in preparation for the competition at Ystrad Mynach College. more...


Scrabble Club Takes on the Experts Pupils at Heolddu have started a scrabble club at lunch times and challenged the experts at Penpedairheol care home. The pupils tried hard but were no match for their adversaries. A re-match follows soon. more...


Artistic pupils from Heolddu Comprehensive School in Bargoed have unveiled a mural at the town’s railway station in recognition of the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Rhymney Railway Line in 1858. more...

Last term the pupils at Key Stage 3 brought history to life at Heolddu. A group of Year 7 pupils brought the Battle of Hastings to school with their exciting re enactment of the great battle at Senlac Hill in 1066. more...

Mr Cuthbert, who is preparing to defend his seat in the forthcoming Welsh Assembly elections, has always enjoyed a warm welcome at the school and took the opportunity to meet with the senior prefects to discuss educational and general administration issues. more...


Lauren Price returned triumphant from the recent European Kick Boxing Championships after securing a Gold, a Silver and a Bronze Medal. The Heolddu pupil, already a World Champion, following her display in Athens in the summer, secured another Gold Medal in the European Championships held in Amsterdam. more...
